About the Business
Since 2009, we have been making and shipping Smith Island Cakes, Maryland’s State Dessert, to celebrations of all sizes and shapes across the country and around the world! We consider Smith Island Cakes a treasure, and are proud ambassadors of this glorious tradition. We love connecting people with their loved ones. Our most popular flavor is Original Chocolate, and people love our cake and ice cream packages. Don’t forget to add a dozen Cake Bites to your order!
How It All Began
In 2009, fresh out of business school, my wife and I decided to start an online bakery on Smith Island. The area needed investment, and we fell in love with the community and Smith Island Cakes. Over the years we have grown and expanded, but our core mission has never changed.
Looking Ahead
We believe we make the best cakes in the country, and we want to keep growing and expanding. We also want to diversify into restaurants, and launch complimentary food lines such as healthy energy bites. Most importantly, we want to keep working with wonderful people and making delicious products we are proud to make and honored to serve.
How MCE Helped
Over the past 15 years, we have shipped hundreds of thousands of cakes. But operating and growing a business in Somerset County has its unique challenges, especially as it pertains to coastal flooding, obtaining working capital, and developing commercial real estate.
