MCE Executive Director Partners with Baltimore Community Lending for a Brighter Future

MCE Executive Director Leads Collaboration to Empower Maryland’s Underserved Communities

Maurice Ames, MCE’s Executive Director, is supporting transformative change through a partnership with Baltimore Community Lending (BCL) to enhance capital access and business support for underserved communities across Maryland. The partnership brings together MCE’s and BCL’s shared mission of uplifting minority and low-income communities, creating a network of support that addresses financial challenges and promotes sustainable business growth.

Through this collaboration, Ames and BCL’s President and CEO, Watchen Bruce, have streamlined lending options, simplifying access to capital for clients who may face barriers with traditional banks. This innovative approach includes joint loan committees, flexible terms, and a vision for larger, community-driven projects that reflect their shared dedication to economic empowerment.

Looking ahead, the partnership will open a new Business Development and Resource Center in 2025. This facility will serve as a comprehensive support hub, offering training rooms, co-working spaces, and resources tailored to small businesses. MCE’s presence in the new facility will further integrate the efforts of both organizations, ensuring clients have consistent access to services.

“Our clients don’t just need a loan—they need a relationship,” Ames says, underscoring the personal, ongoing support MCE offers. Through this partnership, MCE continues to bridge financial gaps, helping clients prepare for long-term success while fostering community resilience.
