Any self-employed business owner can participate, including people who:

Work at their business on a part-time or full-time basis

Work from their home or a place of business

Are just starting or have been in business for years

For most, a Maryland Capital Enterprises loan will be their first business loan. A "microenterprise" is a small business firm, employing five or fewer persons (including a sole owner), that has an inadequate capacity to access traditional business services such as sources of capital and business technical assistance, and meets at least one of the following criteria:

· Has a capitalization of $25,000 or less;
· Has a net worth of $100,000 or less; OR
· Has annual sales revenue of $500,000 or less.
